Main Presentation

          Speaker:  Dennis Kranyak, SMT Member

Topics:  5 Minutes a Month to Superior Investment Returns

This will be part of his most popular workshop to date.  Dennis has also written a book on this topic which should be out soon.

He will cover the basics of an automated investment management system developed by Robert Lichello and outlined in his 1977 book, "How to Make a $1,000,000 in the Stock Market Automatically!".  The system was originally designed to be used with mutual funds, but as the author states, will work on any stock or portfolio of any size.

The system is so simple and safe it can be tracked on the back of an envelope.  With the advent of even lower commissions, better brokerage account access, and the emergence of Exchange Traded Funds (ETFs), the investment environment is ideal for this type of methodology.  The system quite simply forces you to sell as prices go higher and buy as prices go lower. It takes advantage of the fact that the market never stands still, it is either going up or down.  The net result is that the system, when applied to any security or group of securities, will beat the pants of buy and hold....every time.

It requires only fifth grade math.  It is ideal for an IRA, but can also be used for a regular portfolio, an existing portfolio, a college savings account, a custodial account, or a trust.  Wealth accumulation over a twenty year period is nothing short of staggering.  In it's original form it will trigger at most 12 trades a year, with most investments, however three to eight trades per year is the norm.  And, it only takes five minutes a month!

Members' Potpourri

If you have a short presentation you can let me know ahead of time by emailing me at anon020@yahoo.com or call me at 301-593-4542 or let me know at the meeting.

The annual SMT membership fee is due in October of each year. All meetings will be open only to registered members whose dues are current. Guests will be able to attend only one meeting before having to decide whether to join or not, and they will have to sign in at the front table for their "free" meeting. The dues money is used only for meeting expenses, such as room rental and speaker fees (if any). SMT is a volunteer-led association that relies on member dues to defray necessary costs. Please keep your membership current so we can continue to meet. Membership also includes monthly meeting notices.

Dues are $40/year.  Bring cash or a check to the next meeting and present it to Gloria Loew when you sign in at the front table. (Do not enter the rear door of the meeting room.) If you are using a corporate check, please print your name somewhere on the check. We need to know who gets credited with paid dues. New members must complete and submit our member application form. It is available from our website on the SMT Info page or the treasurer at the next meeting. We need name, address, phone numbers, email address and interests. If you are unable to attend the meeting, mail your check to:

We meet the first Thursday of each month at 7:30 PM at: Ring House, 1801 E. Jefferson St., Rockville, MD  20852. Please remember to sign in at the reception desk. If the first Thursday is a holiday we meet the second Thursday of the month.  (Directions and maps are on the SMT Information page )

The Ring House has a rule of not bringing food into the building from outside. They have asked us to remind our members of that -- and the prohibition against using the rear/side building doors to leave.  Also, please don't leave any trash in the meeting room when you leave. Remember, we are guests, and although we pay for the meeting room we are there at their pleasure.

If the weather looks uncertain on a meeting day, we'll try to send an email to all members by 2 PM of that day. Be sure to check your email and this web site (as we have not been able to successfully send email to all of the membership) before heading out to the meeting.

SMT historically has been an organization where members made a majority of the presentations. If this tradition is to continue, we need members willing to make forty-five to sixty minute presentations at future meetings. Please let Sondra Katz know the topic on which you are willing to speak, and when you will be ready to make such a presentation.

SMT also is looking for a few good men and women to lead SMT into the new millennium. This means not just holding office (and we do need volunteers) but planning meetings and speakers. If you are willing to volunteer your time for either function, contact Dick Messalle.
